Apprenticeship Programme

This summer sees the first group of Apprentices qualify for NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry and Joinery through the ‘Swift Training School’.  The school combines facilities for class based study with a workshop area where students can practise and be assessed on their skills by a Swift Horsman Group employed assessor/trainer.  One week of every month is spent at the facility, with the remaining three weeks being spent alongside their allocated mentor on site.   The ‘Swift Training School’ Apprentices will progress onto NVQ Level 3 later in 2009 and will continue building their experience with the guidance and support of Swift Horsman, with a select few looking likely to follow a Project or Commercial Manager path.  Nathan, a second year Apprentice at the training school says: ‘Swift has provided me with an opportunity to aspire to something that may not otherwise have been available to me.’

The venture has not only reaped benefits for The Group's own employees but also the construction industry at large.  Aside from the apprenticeships the school is being used to hold internal courses and we have recently undertaken several recognised health and safety qualifications including the SMSTS for our Site Managers.  We plan to continue training staff to be health and safety and environmentally aware as these important social issues are significant and respected concerns for Swift Horsman Group.
