Case Study: SwiftWall at the BBC

Swiftwall, as part of the Swift Horsman Group, formed part of the Swift team to deliver three packages at the prestigious new BBC facilities in Portland Place, London.

The packages included the construction of; new toilet facilities, new TV recording and broadcasting facilities and new Technical Suites for the making and editing of both TV and Radio programmes. SwiftWall designed, in conjunction with the Architects (Sheppard Robson) and Acoustician (AAD) a mixture of traditional drywall solutions and for the first time in the UK an off-site solution to construct five sided Technical boxes for recording and editing. The design solution incorporated the use of lightweight steel stud work (2mm gauge) and clad with high performance British Gypsum acoustic boards such as Soundbloc and Ridigur H. The latter provided a particularly high acoustic performance level and is also suited to off-site manufacture.

The panels were designed and manufactured in-house using our design department based at Stonyhills and manufactured at our Podwall facility in Scotland.

This approach to the delivery of the project resulted in a new way to approach the drywall market and Swiftwall are determined to continue to develop the use of off-site as an innovative and value-adding solution to future projects whilst recognising that the traditional approach will also be an important part of our offer.
