Swift Horsman and CLIC Sargent

On September 27th 2009 a team of 15 runners turned out at Windsor Great Park to take part in The Windsor Half Marathon.
They were running on behalf of CLIC Sargent, the children’s cancer charity.

On what was one of the hottest September days they succeeded in running  the 13 and a half mile course in various times.
The first runner past the post made it in just over 2 hours and the rest followed with the final group arriving in 3hours and 6 minutes.

Whilst some of the runners had trained hard there were others who, owing to work and family commitments, found they had little time to train and so the fact they completed the course was down solely to their determination to reach the finish point.

Ann Cooper from CLIC Sargent was there to see the event and was extremely grateful to all who took part. She brought her family along and with help from them was able to collect some money on the day.

Swift Horsman hosted a small hospitality area which proved invaluable to the runners as they had a meeting point where they could enjoy refreshments both before and after the race.

Swift Horsman also provided the use of the company mini bus to collect two families with children affected by cancer and they enjoyed a fantastic day in the company of the whole team. It was wonderful to see these children, with smiles on their faces, having a great time thanks to all of those who helped organise and take part in the event.

The money raised will go towards helping CLIC Sargent provide support and care for these families. The charity provides home nurses, accommodation near to hospitals and also vital moral support during what is a very traumatic time for them and we are very happy to have been able to support them with our efforts.

Our special thanks go to Robert Radford who organised the event, Doug Rowe for his support and help with donations toward the hospitality. To Nicola Roope who organised the mini bus, Andrea Wenzel who designed the banner, Marie Healey who put up with endless calls from Robert during the setting up of the event and Sarah Hoar who came along on the day to help with the collection and entertaining the children. Also to The Board of directors who backed the event and David from Fix 8 for attending with his camera to capture some of the best moments. Thanks also to Chris at Fix8 who so generously supplied the runners vests.

And finally thanks to all of the runners who turned out to make the day a huge success.
